Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out firmly as a bandleader, the former Clifford Brown-Max Roach quintet member delivers a muscular, driving session that defies West Coast stereotypes. Featuring the impeccable pianism of Carl Perkins, the album proves that Los Angeles musicians could execute hard bop with the same fiery grit as New York counterparts.
