Album Notes & Community Reviews
A deeply intimate and highly nuanced collaboration, this album pairs the veteran jazz vocalist with the sophisticated arrangements of pianist Dick Katz. Backed by a stellar small group featuring guitarist Jim Hall and bassist Ron Carter, Merrill's breathy, emotionally precise phrasing shines in an incredibly spacious, conversational setting. The recording represents a high-water mark for intellectually rigorous, small-ensemble vocal jazz.
