Album Notes & Community Reviews
Anchoring the rhythm section for numerous prominent West Coast sessions, the virtuosic upright bassist stepped forward to lead his own dynamic ensemble for the seminal Black Jazz label. The resulting album perfectly articulates the era's shift toward spiritualized post-bop, heavily relying on deeply syncopated, propulsive basslines to drive intricate horn improvisations and socially conscious compositions.
