Recruiting hip-hop producer Kenny Beats to co-produce, the Bristol post-punk quintet significantly expanded their sonic palette towards darker, more industrial and electronic textures. Thematically, frontman Joe Talbot confronts his harrowing past with severe substance abuse and near-fatal trauma, departing slightly from the broad political sloganeering of their prior work. The result is a brooding, intense, and emotionally exhausting triumph.
