Album Notes & Community Reviews

'Symphony of Psalms' is Igor Stravinsky's three movement choral symphony, commissioned by Serge Koussevitzky for the fiftieth anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and setting Latin Vulgate texts from Psalms 38, 39 and 150. Ernest Ansermet conducted the world premiere in Brussels with the Soci茅t茅 Philharmonique after Koussevitzky fell ill, and Stravinsky himself made the first recording in Paris with the Orchestre des Concerts Straram and the Alexis Vlassov Choir. The score omits violins, violas and clarinets, scoring the chorus against five flutes, two pianos, harp, cellos and double basses.
