Making their major-label debut on Atlantic Records, 'Black Widow' fully embraces the highly theatrical, gothic-industrial aesthetic frontwoman Maria Brink had begun cultivating on previous releases. Produced largely by Kevin Churko, the album trades much of their early metalcore aggression for heavily synthesized, stomping alternative metal and macabre conceptual storytelling. The slick, radio-friendly production yielded some of their highest-charting rock radio singles.
