Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded spontaneously after a boozy party, the debut album from the Stax songwriting heavyweight acts as an impromptu, jazz-inflected jam session rather than a polished soul masterwork. 'Presenting Isaac Hayes' features lengthy, vamp-heavy covers over which Hayes showcases his burgeoning baritone and improvisational piano skills. Though rough around the edges, it hints at the expansive, cinematic soul arrangements he would soon perfect.
