Album Notes & Community Reviews

Following his long tenure with Prestige, the Hammond B-3 organ master brought his greasy, hard-swinging sound to Atlantic Records for this heavily rhythmic release. Arranged alongside a large, robust brass section, 'Tobacco Road' finds McDuff laying down deep, bluesy grooves that blur the lines between soul jazz and nascent funk. The infectious instrumental interpretations of contemporary pop hits exemplify his formidable commercial and artistic appeal.
