Album Notes & Community Reviews
Jaimie Branch's debut album 'Fly or Die' introduces her core quartet and a sound that merges free jazz improvisation with punk-infused energy and melodicism. The album's compositions are built around the dynamic interplay between Branch's fiery trumpet, the unconventional textures of Tomeka Reid's cello, and the rhythm section of Jason Ajemian and Chad Taylor. A raw production style captures the live, hyperactive energy of the ensemble, establishing Branch as a significant new voice in the avant-garde.
