Sunshine of My Soul

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Backed by the legendary rhythm section of bassist David Izenzon and drummer Elvin Jones, the exceptionally versatile pianist recorded one of his most forward-thinking and energetic sessions. The trio navigates a dazzling array of styles, seamlessly transitioning from traditional stride piano and swinging hard-bop into chaotic, dissonant free-jazz improvisation. It is a wildly eclectic, highly revered document of Byard's encyclopedic command of jazz history.
