Album Notes & Community Reviews

Often utilizing his eclectic understanding of jazz history, 'Hi-Fly' finds pianist Jaki Byard bridging traditional stride techniques with angular, post-bop sensibilities. Joined by Ron Carter and Pete La Roca, the trio navigates complex rhythmic shifts with surprising accessibility. It showcases his deeply idiosyncratic approach to the keyboard just prior to his highly visible tenure with Charles Mingus.
