Album Notes & Community Reviews
A joyous and wildly inventive session teaming two of jazz's most eclectic masters. Jaki Byard was a true historian of jazz piano, capable of moving from stride to free-jazz in a single phrase. On this album, he and the equally encyclopedic Rahsaan Roland Kirk engage in a spirited deconstruction of jazz standards and originals, paying tribute to the music's deep roots while simultaneously pushing it into the avant-garde. It鈥檚 a virtuosic and witty celebration of the entire jazz tradition.
