Trying Times

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Trying Times', James Blake synthesizes the atmospheric textures of dream pop with the minimalist electronic production of his early work. The album's sparse, fractured beats and layered synthesizers create a foundation for his signature emotive falsetto, exploring themes of introspection and vulnerability. Marking his first independent release, the record balances the soulful, song-oriented structures of his mid-career with the experimental, club-centric sounds he returned to on 'Playing Robots Into Heaven', further cementing his position as an innovator in electronic music.
