Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released during a period of immense creative transition, 'James Brown Sings Raw Soul' compiles recent singles that foreshadowed his shift toward pure funk. The album features early syncopated masterpieces like 'Bring It Up', effectively documenting the Godfather of Soul as he began prioritizing the groove over traditional R&B structures. It captures the raw, unfiltered energy of his mid-60s touring band.
