Take a Look at Those Cakes

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Attempting to retain his throne during the peak of the disco movement, James Brown infused his signature heavy funk with driving, extended dancefloor arrangements. The Godfather of Soul commands incredibly tight, relentless grooves from the J.B.'s, particularly on the sprawling, eleven-minute title track. Though overshadowed by his foundational sixties output, the album proves his enduring ability to command a devastatingly funky rhythm section.
