Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out from behind the boards of Slum Village, J Dilla's solo debut is a vibrant homage to his hometown's musical legacy. 'Welcome 2 Detroit' weaves together an eclectic tapestry of soul samples, off-kilter drum programming, and heavy synthesizer grooves, laying the groundwork for the modern beat-tape aesthetic. It serves as an incredible showcase of Dilla's rhythmic genius and highly influential, unquantized production style.
