Album Notes & Community Reviews

For his inaugural solo outing, the Grateful Dead frontman played nearly all the instruments himself, barring drum contributions from Bill Kreutzmann. The LP alternates between beautifully constructed, folk-rock Americana staples like 'Sugaree' and deeply bizarre, avant-garde electronic collages utilizing synthesizers and tape loops. It functions as a fascinating cross-section of his dual affinities for traditional roots music and radical studio experimentation.
