Album Notes & Community Reviews

Anchored by a deeply infectious groove, this quintet session heavily features the tambourine to simulate the fervent rhythm of a storefront gospel church. The Hammond B3 organ lines are exceptionally gritty and syncopated, cementing the bridge between hard bop intellect and raw rhythm and blues physicality. 'Rockin' the Boat' serves as a definitive blueprint for the burgeoning soul-jazz movement.
