Recorded for the Jazzland label, this album documents alto saxophonist Joe Harriott's pioneering development of European free jazz. Operating concurrently with but independently of Ornette Coleman's American experiments, Harriott's ensemble utilized abstract, collective improvisation while retaining distinct rhythmic and thematic centers.
