Album Notes & Community Reviews

Showcasing his uniquely expressive, highly melodic approach to the drum kit, the celebrated New York percussionist leads an entirely chordless trio featuring trombonist Steve Swell and saxophonist Ellery Eskelin. 'Tongue in Groove' is a playful, rhythmically intricate free-jazz session that heavily utilizes space, humor, and swinging, blues-inflected avant-garde interaction. The record highlights Baron's formidable status within the downtown improvisation scene.
