Album Notes & Community Reviews
John Bean made these prank calls from Knoxville in the late 1970s and early 1980s, posing as the aggrieved Leroy Mercer, and the tapes spread hand to hand among truckers and record-shop clerks as the underground 'Redneck Tapes'. Bean died in 1984, long before an official release set the record straight; his routines were later borrowed, by their creators' own admission, for the Roy D. Mercer albums.
