Album Notes & Community Reviews

Sharply expanding his standard arena-rock template, Mellencamp integrated traditional Appalachian instrumentation such as fiddles, accordions, and hammered dulcimers into the core arrangements. This roots-oriented shift serves as the perfect bedrock for his bleak, deeply conscious lyrical examinations of American economic decline and working-class struggles.
