Grand Encounter: 2° East / 3° West

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Facilitating a highly anticipated cross-coastal summit, this session unites the intellectual, East Coast cool of the Modern Jazz Quartet's rhythm section with premier West Coast soloists. The pianoless and heavily interwoven arrangements afford the ensemble immense harmonic freedom to explore relaxed, deeply lyrical interpretations of jazz standards. The remarkably cohesive, exquisitely tasteful recording stands as a definitive triumph of mid-century bicoastal collaboration.
