Album Notes & Community Reviews

A highly theatrical collaborative effort wherein multi-instrumentalist John Parish composed all the music, allowing PJ Harvey to focus entirely on writing and performing the lyrics. The resulting tracks are remarkably sparse, blues-inflected, and intensely dramatic, heavily reflecting Harvey's concurrent involvement in theatrical performance. The stark, uncompromising recording actively alienates the polished alt-rock sensibilities that defined her previous mainstream success.
