Bar Talk

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded in a stripped-down trio format with Steve Swallow on bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums, 'Bar Talk' captures guitarist John Scofield's transition toward a more modern, post-bop-oriented fusion. The album strips away the heavy synthesizer and funk elements of the era, focusing instead on his highly distinct, angular guitar phrasing and remarkable melodic intuition. It stands as a vital, sophisticated early entry in his extensive catalog.
