Al Santiago signed Pacheco to Alegre after catching the charanga at the Tritons social club in the Bronx, and the debut became the label's best seller on the strength of 'El G眉iro de Macorina', co-written and arranged by Louie Ram铆rez. With Manny Oquendo and violinist Jos茅 'Chombo' Silva in the band, it made Pacheco's group the most popular charanga of the pachanga craze.
