The solo debut by The Strokes frontman finds him stepping entirely outside the boundaries of his primary band's signature garage rock revivalism. Incorporating prominent, arpeggiated synthesizer arrangements, drum machines, and classical instrumentation, the record explores neon-tinged new wave and 1980s alternative dance aesthetics. It revealed a surprisingly ambitious, synth-pop-oriented facet of his songwriting repertoire.
