The virtuosic guitarist radically expands his trio format, enlisting producer Joe Henry to help craft a sprawling, deeply eclectic masterpiece of modern post-bop and chamber jazz. Beautifully integrating acoustic chamber folk textures and unexpected avant-garde improvisations, the highly melodic instrumental performances remain remarkably calm. It is a rhythmically complex, flawlessly executed milestone in contemporary jazz.
