Album Notes & Community Reviews

This trio session perfectly captures the pianist's remarkably earthy, deeply blues-rooted approach to modern jazz syntax. His reliance on crushed notes, strong gospel inflection, and relentless swing provides an immensely joyful, accessible listening experience. The record helped define the early parameters of the acoustic soul-jazz piano tradition.
