Magnetism

'Magnetism' unites two generations of experimental music, merging Kali Malone's poignant, minimalist melodic structures with Drew McDowall's signature timbral synthesis and industrial textures. The instrumental compositions were built from improvisations on a monophonic modular synth without overdubs, utilizing bespoke tunings and just intonation to create sounds that are at once unsettling and contemplative. Recorded spontaneously, the album's sound is defined by Karplus-Strong synthesis, distortion, and delay, which morph Malone's motifs into alien yet accessible drone pieces that balance harshness with a meditative, ritualistic quality.
