Monolith
by Kansas
Serving as the first entirely self-produced studio album by the American progressive rock titans, the project leaned into complex conceptual themes surrounding Native American mythology. While still retaining their signature symphonic rock interplay and dual keyboard/violin attacks, the songwriting visibly shifted towards more accessible, AOR-friendly textures. The album marks the beginning of their commercial descent following their absolute peak during the late 70s.
