Silent City

This breathtaking collaboration pairs the Iranian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor with the adventurous American string quartet Brooklyn Rider. The centerpiece is the title track, a massive, 29-minute lament composed in memory of the Kurdish village of Halabja, destroyed in a 1988 chemical attack. The album brilliantly improvises across the boundaries of Western chamber music and traditional Persian melodic structures.
