Album Notes & Community Reviews

Paying homage to the gritty, deeply rhythmic sound emanating from Stax/Volt studios, the iconic saxophonist delivers a ferocious set of instrumental R&B covers. 'King Curtis Plays the Great Memphis Hits' marries his trademark stuttering, bluesy horn phrasing with an incredibly tight backing band, brilliantly replicating the heavy groove of the original recordings. It remains a definitive masterclass in soul-jazz interpretation.
