This is the band's first album without founding guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and their last with original drummer David Silveria. To reshape their sound, the band collaborated with the pop production team The Matrix, known for their work with artists like Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne. This partnership, along with contributions from producer Atticus Ross, pushed the band's music in a more polished, industrial, and atmospheric direction, incorporating more electronic elements and keyboard textures.
