Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out from his storied big band pedigree, the trombonist proves his dexterity within modern small-group contexts. The session balances his famously smooth, melodic balladry with aggressive, blues-drenched bop phrasing over a swinging rhythm section. The recording acts as a strong stylistic bridge, integrating swing-era tonal warmth with the demanding harmonic velocity of the mid-fifties.
