Album Notes & Community Reviews

Propelled by its infectious, nursery-rhyme-like title track, 'Ya! Ya!' perfectly captures the loose, syncopated essence of New Orleans rhythm and blues. Produced by Allen Toussaint, the record established Lee Dorsey's good-natured, raspy vocal style against rolling piano lines and second-line drum grooves. It served as a massive crossover hit that heavily defined the Crescent City's musical export during the early 60s.
