Album Notes & Community Reviews

Bernstein conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at Munich's Herkulessaal in three separate semi-staged concert performances, one act at a time, with Peter Hofmann as Tristan and Hildegard Behrens as Isolde, supported by Yvonne Minton, Bernd Weikl and Hans Sotin. His deliberately slow tempos stretch the performance to roughly four and a half hours, and Karl B枚hm declared that Bernstein had conducted the opera the way Wagner intended it to be conducted.
