Album Notes & Community Reviews

Leprous's 2009 debut, *Tall Poppy Syndrome*, is a volatile and ambitious statement, establishing the Norwegian quintet's foundational DNA. The album navigates a labyrinth of technical progressive metal, marked by the intricate, jazz-inflected drumming of Tobias 脴rnes Andersen and dueling, syncopated guitars. Einar Solberg鈥檚 soaring, theatrical vocals cut through the dense arrangements, which shift from aggressive, polyrhythmic assaults to moments of stark, atmospheric keyboard work. Produced by Jonas Kjellgren, the record鈥檚 polished yet potent sound underscores its thematic exploration of ambition and societal resentment, marking a formidable entry into the experimental metal landscape.
