Album Notes & Community Reviews
Conceived by producer Norman Granz as a loving reunion of foundational swing-era pioneers, this relaxed studio date proves their elegant, deeply rhythmic aesthetic remained entirely undiminished. The all-star septet, heavily anchored by the famously smooth tenor saxophone of Lester Young, eschews complex modern bop for extended, conversational blues jams and standards. The exceptionally joyous, historically significant session serves as a vital bridge connecting pre-war swing directly to modern mainstream jazz.
