Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during the height of the American folk-blues revival, 'Soul Blues' presents the legendary Texas bluesman in an intimate, mostly acoustic setting. Lightnin' Hopkins spins extemporaneous, highly autobiographical narratives over his distinctively irregular, finger-picked guitar rhythms, accompanied sparingly by a rhythm section. It offers a pristine, unvarnished look at his improvisational mastery and deep emotional resonance.
