Operating heavily with a programmed drum machine rather than a human drummer, the Norwegian duo's sophomore album is an overwhelming monument of symphonic black metal. The incredibly dense, rapid-fire pacing is constantly saturated in layers of gothic synthesizer orchestration, creating a suffocating, almost operatic dark fantasy aesthetic.
