Pivoting from her country-rock foundations, Linda Ronstadt embraced a new wave and power pop aesthetic for this record, prominently featuring energetic covers of Elvis Costello and The Cretones. The stylistic shift proved highly commercially viable, yielding three top 40 hits and capturing the edgy but polished sound of early 1980s pop radio.
