Album Notes & Community Reviews
On 'Lotus', Little Simz pivots from longtime producer Inflo, engaging Kokoroko producer Miles Clinton James for a sound rooted in live jazz instrumentation with elements of punk and funk. Thematically, the album uses the lotus flower as a metaphor for resilience and growth through turmoil, with introspective lyrics exploring personal conflict, youth, and renewal. Her versatile performance, shifting between aggressive flows and melodic arrangements, captures a sonic and emotional journey of navigating betrayal and finding peace, as seen on tracks featuring artists like Michael Kiwanuka, Yussef Dayes, and Sampha.
