Blending the chiming guitars of early jangle pop with incredibly slick, string-laden sophisti-pop production, 'Rattlesnakes' is a remarkably articulate, literate indie debut. Lloyd Cole's deeply poetic, sarcastic songwriting references French cinema and literary figures, delivering highly romantic, bittersweet narratives of modern love and urban ennui. It is a highly melodic, autumn-tinged masterpiece of 80s British pop.
