Stepping out from the abrasive No Wave noise of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Lydia Lunch pivoted toward heavily orchestrated, deeply cinematic dark jazz and cabaret. Arranged by Billy Ver Planck, 'Queen of Siam' perfectly frames her incredibly sarcastic, spoken-word drawl against ominous big-band swings, creating a profoundly nocturnal, highly sensual, and theatrical masterpiece.
