The songwriting is centered on themes of memory and emotional reflection, which critics noted as giving the record a confident, focused, and intimate quality. A generally favorable reception highlighted the album as a focused project that was bolstered by the commercial and critical success of its Grammy-nominated lead single, "Make You Mine".
