Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping away from the sweeping pop orchestrations of her earliest hits, 'North Country Maid' finds Marianne Faithfull fully embracing the acoustic contemporary folk revival. Relying largely on stark, traditional arrangements and Jon Mark's delicate guitar work, she delivers haunting interpretations of English folk standards and Bob Dylan compositions. The album underscores her early, unadorned vocal purity before her later stylistic transformations.
