Album Notes & Community Reviews
'Porto Novo' documents Marion Brown during a European period that placed him in contact with a broader free-jazz network. The album features a small-group setting whose open textures contrast with the denser energy music associated with some of his earlier work. It remains an important entry in Brown's catalog for its balance of lyricism and freedom.
