Album Notes & Community Reviews

Dedicated heavily to the compositions of his mentor Archie Shepp, the alto saxophonist's major-label debut is a masterfully balanced exploration of the mid-60s avant-garde. The session features incredibly telepathic interaction with pianist Stanley Cowell, demonstrating that free jazz improvisation could retain a deeply lyrical, highly emotional core.
