Created concurrently with his work in Cleaners from Venus, this entirely self-produced, D.I.Y. cassette release highlights Newell's deeply English, pastoral songwriting. 'Songs for.... a Fallow Land' is characterized by its exceedingly lo-fi 4-track recording quality, warbling tape effects, and highly melodic, 1960s-inspired psychedelic pop structures. The heavily bootlegged tape remains a beloved cult artifact of the 1980s British cassette underground.
